Queen Mary started life in 1887 as the People’s Palace, a philanthropic centre bringing education and culture to east London. Historical documents reveal that thousands of people attended the free talks, musical events, exhibitions, gardens, swimming pool, entertainment and library that were made available for local use. More than 125 years later, the School of Geography echoes this historic commitment to working with communities, both local and global, in ways that are appropriate to very changed times.
