Documenting Migration

Documenting the Humanitarian Migration Crisis in the Mediterranean

This is the website of the research project Documenting the Humanitarian Migration Crisis in the Mediterranean, which is led by Prof Elspeth Guild (Principal Investigator, Queen Mary University of London and Radboud University Nijmegen) and Dr Leonie Ansems de Vries (Co-Investigator, King’s College London). The project is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) under the ESRC’s Urgency Grant Mechanism. The project is co-funded by the Department for International Development.

The research project maps migration trajectories and transit points across Europe in order to develop a humanitarian response to the Mediterranean migration ‘crisis’. The research is based on qualitative fieldwork in migration transit points across Europe (Lampedusa, Sicily, Milan, Lesvos, Marseille, Ventimiglia, Paris and Calais), including 100 interviews with migrants, civil society organisations and officials from governments and international organisations.
