As the old saying goes – “It’s not what you know that counts, it’s who you know”, which, in the modern professional environment, means building a net that works.
Once upon a time this network was built upon the face-to-face connections that academics made – especially at conferences. However, the current health climate means that these opportunities may be harder to come by.
We do, however, live in a very connected world. Having an online profile and presence, using Social Media, LinkedIn, ResearchGate etc. is part and parcel of academic or industrial success.
Yet, for many in the research community, ‘networking’ is still not an easy or natural thing to do.
So, networking and collaborations are the lifeblood of research.  In order to maximise the impacts of your work it is vital that you disseminate it effectively, and also that you start to foster collaborative links, both within research and more widely.  This focused webinar, facilitated by Dr. Steve Hutchinson, with a small amount of pre-thinking - will help you to explore how to do this in the right way for you and your work.

Why you should attend

The course will provide a great networking opportunity to share experiences with your peers and maintain contact with Queen Mary’s supportive research community.

This course is run in two session. The morning session will cover information on networking and preparing for conferences. The afternoon session will cover wellbeing, how to maintain momentum, and work-life-balance in PhD studies.

Attendees have to sign-in for both session to secure CPD points for attending this course.
