MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships

DERI invites expressions of interest from researchers interested in submitting a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship (MSCA PF) application with DERI as the host organisation. MSCA PFs are funded by the European Commission.

The MSCA Fellowships are aimed at attracting excellent researchers of any nationality who wish to acquire new skills through advanced training, international, interdisciplinary, and inter-sectoral mobility.

About DERI

DERI is a recently established, interdisciplinary research institute designed to facilitate world-leading research into AI, and digital, and data science, uniting researchers from across all disciplines to collaborate to tackle global issues.

As a recently established institute, we are going through a period of rapid expansion and are keen to welcome early career researchers on prestigious fellowships who share our vision. DERI has a dedicated space, and hosts its own GPU HPC Cluster called Andrena, which Fellows would have access to. Fellows could expect to join a vibrant community of DERI based staff, and DERI/Alan Turing Institute Fellows who all contribute in various ways to our growing community. Fellows would become part of the DERI community and would have access to a range of workshop and training opportunities through the Queen Mary Academy.

What does the Fellowship offer?

The Fellowship is a prestigious EU funding scheme which supports mobility, career development and training in Europe and beyond. The fellowship offers a 12-24 months’ highly competitive salary and research/training funds, as well as funding to support dependents if required.

Eligibility

Applicants must apply jointly with a host organisation, and should consult the DERI Research pages to identify a group to host their MSCA fellowship. Additionally, applicants must:

  • Hold a PhD degree at the time of the deadline for applications (or have, as a minimum, completed their viva even if not yet awarded).
  • Have a maximum of eight years experience in research, from the date of the award of their PhD degree,
  • Comply with the mobility requirements, including not having resided or carried out their main activity in the UK, or at Queen Mary London University, for more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately before the call deadline (13/09/2023).

Note, resubmissions restrictions will apply for those who score lower than 70% in the previous year.

How to Apply

Expressions of Interest should be submitted to deri@qmul.ac.uk by July 14th 2023.

Expressions of interest should consist of:

  • A 2 page CV
  • A 2 page outline of your research proposal, including its fit to DERI and the identified research group/area
  • A statement confirming that you meet the eligibility criteria.

We recommend you make informal contact with the DERI Academic lead of choice prior to applying, and we can provide support with this if needed.

Outcome of the Expressions of interest round will be confirmed by August 4th. Successful candidates will then be invited to prepare the full application, developing their proposal further, including given support with costings and preparing the required documentation.

Informal queries about the scheme, or how to apply can be directed to deri@qmul.ac.uk
