Queen Mary accommodation and studying abroad

If you're living on campus or studying abroad during the COVID-19 outbreak, you can find guidance and support below.

Student residences

On 26 March, the UK government advised that students still living in on-campus accommodation should remain in that accommodation and not attempt to travel. We’re continuing to provide support for students remaining on campus.

If you have questions about accommodation, we’ve published guidance and information for current students and new applicants.

Returning home

The UK Government has announced that everyone must stay at home and only go outside for food, health reasons or work – if they are unable to work from home. Queen Mary remains open, however there is now no face-to-face teaching until further notice. All education is being carried out online and all but essential on-campus services are being delivered remotely.

On 26 March, the UK Government advised that students still living in on-campus accommodation should remain in that accommodation and not attempt to travel. We are continuing to provide support for students remaining on campus.

Visas and immigration status

The Home Office has published updated visa guidance to provide greater certainty for international higher education students and staff in the UK currently unable to return home due to COVID-19.

Queen Mary's Advice and Counselling Service have published information for current Queen Mary students with Tier 4 immigration permission.

If you have concerns about your own immigration status in the UK, or that of a family member, please contact the Advice and Counselling Service for confidential advice.

Field trips

To minimise risks to students and staff, we are cancelling all international field trips for undergraduates scheduled between now and 1 July 2020.

We’re keeping all other planned field trips under review. If you are directly affected by this decision, please contact your school or institute directly.

Students on overseas exchange programmes

You should continue to follow the guidance from your host institution. If you have any questions, contact goabroad@qmul.ac.uk

MBBS Malta students

Until 20 April 2020:

  • the medical school is closed to students and the public in line with the new measures announced by the Government of Malta
