With festivals, Royal Parks, historical landmarks, and a lively social scene, it’s no surprise that London is one of the most popular cities in the world in which to be a student. The cultural, political and business centre of the UK, London attracts people from all over the globe.
Campus life in London
Not only do Queen Mary students get to live in a bustling city (which has recently been ranked as the best in the World for students by QS Higher Education Group), they also have the opportunity to experience a friendly campus community. We are proud to have an integrated teaching, research and residential Campus at our Mile End site and with plenty of greenery and attractive outdoor spaces, our campus also offers students space to relax away from the rush of the city.
I live at home but I have loads of friends who lived on campus in first year, so we would always hang out together in the coffee shops or restaurants on site. Our campus is close to everything, from the City to Westfield

As a student at Queen Mary, you will become part of the dynamic East End, famed for its rich history, community spirit and thriving cultural scene. Our location provides the perfect excuse to take a break from studying and explore the quirky museums, contemporary art galleries, pop-up restaurants, bars, vintage shops, markets and independent cinemas that give east London its unique character.
East London is a very cultural place and it’s also very convenient. On the weekends, I go to the local markets in Whitechapel for reasonably priced groceries, or Brick Lane market which is within walking distance of campus

Exploring the city
Our students benefit from our close proximity to the centre of the capital. Our campuses are well connected to public transport; from Mile End station it takes just 5 minutes on the Tube to Liverpool Street and 15 minutes to Oxford Circus. Our students are in a great position to take advantage of everything this incredible city has to offer.
Being a student in London is a great adventure - your education isn't confined to the classroom and the city is your playground

Our work in the community
Queen Mary started life in 1887 as the People’s Palace, a philanthropic centre bringing education and culture to east London. Our historical commitment to the local community continues today, with staff and students supporting many businesses, charities and cultural organisations in the area.
Our students have:
- worked shifts with the London Air Ambulance Service, shadowing some of the UK’s leading paramedics and trauma doctors
- helped plan the content featured in new displays for the Imperial War Museum
- joined academics, MPs and democracy campaigners in presenting evidence to the body scrutinising plans for a major reform of the House of Lords
- offered free legal advice to local people from our award-winning, student-run Legal Advice Centre
- led challenging projects at local charities in east London as part of our award-winning scheme QProjects.
