Centre announces new Director

Dr. Sarah Wolff has been announced as the Director of the Center for European Research at QMUL, succeeding to Dr. Copeland. Sarah's experience on EU politics and foreign policy was gained in various public, think tanks and higher education institutions. Prior to joining Queen Mary University of London in 2012, Sarah worked at the European Parliament, European Commission, the Netherlands Institute of International Relations and University College London.

Sarah’s research interests include European Union politics and policy-making, EU migration policy, Justice and Home Affairs policy, as well as EU external relations and EU aid and development policy. She is an expert in EU relations with North Africa, Middle East and the externalisation of EU migration and border management policies in the Mediterranean region.

She is currently working on a research project that investigates the role of secularism and religion in EU foreign policy. It is embedded in critical international relations approaches challenging Eurocentrism and European post-colonialism in EU foreign policy.

In addition to her position at SPIR, Sarah is Senior Research Associate Fellow at the Netherlands Institute for International Relations and regularly contributes in various media (Le Monde, Today Zaman, Al-Jazeera, Skynews, etc), blogs at sarahwolffeu.wordpress.com, and tweets @drsarahwolff. She is the co-editor of Mediterranean Politics.
