Profile

Currently working on law reform of property law in respect of digital assets. His research activities at CCLS provide a comparative legal study of digital assets in a common law and civil law. His home institution is Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, where he is Professor of Civil Law, at the School of Law.

Professor Maydanyk is the leading expert on property and trust law in Ukraine and has written the leading textbooks on Ukrainian Private Law (monographs 2016, 2019, 2021). He has recently carried out research on reform of the Ukrainian Civil Code (2021) to accommodate digital assets and their characterization in private law as forms of property.  In this capacity he has been appointed as advisor to the Verchovna Rada Ukrainy (The Ukrainian Parliament) and legislation based on his proposals is currently being passed. He has also published on liability issues for ai-based technologies and acts as an advisor to the Ukrainian Supreme Court. He has included in the recommended list of arbitrators at the International Arbitration Court at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ukraine in Kyiv and sit as an arbitrator on a regular basis. Professor Maydanyk has been awarded the Honorary title "Outstanding Lawyer" (2022), the Best lecturer at the School of Law, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (2021), the Badge of Honor to the Ukrainian scientists (2018); Memorial Award of the Supreme Court of Ukraine – bas-relief of the Klovsky Palace (2017).
