We are delighted to announce our forthcoming seminar on:

European Capital Markets Union: where are we after 4 years? Where are we going?

A new Commission, a new Parliament, a new ECB President, Brexit, general uncertainty in national and international politics, supervisory reform and a call for sustainable finance.

How will these and other factors complement or affect the delivery of the CMU?  In this session, the speaker will briefly describe what the CMU is, where it stands and discuss the challenges being faced by regulators and regulated entities, as well as focus on specific cases as that of sustainable finance, FinTech and big data and their importance for Europeans and citizens worldwide.

Speaker: Frederico Alcântara de Melo, Council of Europe Development Bank

Frederico is a counsel advising the Council of Europe Development Bank on regulatory, capital markets and development lending matters.

He was involved in the global negotiation and the EU implementation of the G20 reform of financial regulation after the 2008 crisis as European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) official. Before that Frederico was a regulator (CMVM, Portugal); banking & operations lawyer (Euroclear Bank), and international banking & finance lawyer (VdA, Lisbon). Frederico is speaking on a pro-bono basis as UK alumnus.
