Programme description

Our BSc in Business Management has been designed to develop your critical skills in business and organisational analysis. It combines theories of business management with an evaluation of the techniques and processes adopted by contemporary organisations. Our emphasis on the interconnected nature of business management and society means you will consider questions that are not traditionally considered to be within the remit of a business school, for example critical and post-modern theories of organisations, and social dynamics in societies. From the beginning you will be encouraged to think for yourself, and gain confidence in evaluating the claims made by experts.

You will graduate well-prepared to take up the challenge of addressing complex business and management issues in your future work. Specific examples of modules available are listed below. As the School grows the number of modules on offer to students will be expanding.

The BSc in Business and Management is a three-year degree, taught within the College’s modular system. You are expected to take eight modules in each year, each of which is normally assessed by a combination of coursework and/or an examination in May or June. You will therefore normally have taken 24 modules in completing your degree. The modular system allows much more flexibility than the traditional system. Subject to meeting a module’s prerequisites, you may in principle choose from modules taught in the School of Business and Management, as well as those from all other Schools and Departments in the College (except the School of Medicine and Dentistry). You will need to make sure, however, that your choice of modules is consistent with the structure of the Business and Management degree, and modules taken outside the School should be complementary to your main studies. Your personal academic adviser will guide you through this process and approve your module choices.
