Dr Emm Barnes

Strategic Project Manager

The Strategic Project Manager is responsible for managing strategically significant major projects, supporting business enhancement initiatives, as well as facilitating workshops, utilising a variety of project management tools and techniques. They share evidence and insights to support strategic decision-making.

They manage the interdependencies of multiple accreditation awards and the collection and retention of data to meet the different requirements of accreditation bodies. They forge relationships with key stakeholders internally and externally, to coordinate current and future accreditation activity. They proactively engage with School stakeholders and University directorates to ensure key strategies and objectives are implemented and monitored, in line with the School’s commitment to continuous improvement as part of the accreditation process. In addition, they work with the School Manager to ensure quality and accreditation activity is embedded in and very much part of the School’s governance processes.

Working on capital projects, they represent the views of the School at Project Board meetings and influence the development of the building design to ensure that the needs of a growing School are appropriately addressed. The Strategic Project Manager also supports similar activities for other Schools in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Emm manages a programme of projects for business accreditation: EQUIS, AACSB, Athena SWAN, in association with the Dean of the Business School and the Schools Executive Committee. She ensures stakeholders are consulted and fully engaged with these projects, and acts as the School's central point of contact for all matters related to School accreditation, by providing progress and project reports at senior management group meetings, and briefing other stakeholders as appropriate.

Emm leads activity with other professional services directorates (including Finance, Research Services and HR) to ensure the timely production of data required to meet accreditation criteria, and manages the accreditation budget in conjunction with the School Manager.

The Strategic Project Manager leads the Project Office and reports to the Faculty Operating Officer (HSS) and the Dean of the School of Business and Management.
