Full title: Accuracy of a rapid intrapartum test for maternal Group B Streptococcal (GBS) colonisation and its potential to reduce antibiotic usage in mother with risk factors
Research Groups:  Women’s Health Research Unit.
Acronym: GBS2

GBS2 is a cluster randomised trial designed to investigate the real time accuracy of a rapid PCR test to detect GBS colonisation among women in labour with risk factors. GBS2 will also evaluate if using this rapid intrapartum test for GBS colonisation reduces maternal and neonatal antibiotic usage compared with the usual care of Intrapartum Antibiotic Prophylaxis (IAP) based on maternal risk factors alone. We aim to recruit a minimum of 8 clusters per arm (total 16 hospitals), from which we estimate 84 women with risk factors will be recruited.
