CEG does not recommend lipid testing in people with a QRisk of less than 7.5%
This view is endorsed by North East London local authority public health teams. 70% of women under 60 years of age and 70% of men under 55 years of age without additional major risk factors have a 10-year cardiovascular disease risk lower than 7.5%. For these people - which is the majority of people attending NHS Health Checks - a blood test is costly and unnecessary. It conveys no useful information to the overwhelming majority of those at low risk of cardiovascular disease.
