Barts Health NHS Trust Archives

The archives cared for by Barts Health are amongst the largest and most important hospital and medical school collections in the UK, with records filling over 2.5km of shelving.  The archives include records relating to staff, patients, buildings and management of the hospitals in the current Barts Health group, as well as numerous other hospitals, institutions, charities, organisations and individuals relating to health care and training in the City and East London.

They include collections relating to the development and history of the historic St Bartholomew’s Hospital and London Hospital Medical Colleges, as well as the archives of the current Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. The majority of this material is normally available by appointment for research purposes, though some more recent material may be restricted under the Data Protection Act. You can search the archive catalogue online, and find more information about accessing the collections and booking an appointment here. You can contact the archives at barts.archives@nhs.net.
