Season of Bangla Drama

We are thrilled to announce the 2020 Season of Bangla Drama will still take place as an online festival due to a successful application for Arts Council Emergency Funding.  Led by Tower Hamlets this showcase of the best of British-Bengali theatre, with a uniquely East London focus,  has been able to move online in huge part thanks to the collaboration with Queen Mary University School of Drama staff who have developed their expertise in creating online events during this period and are already able to transfer these skills to the wider arts world.
Theme
The theme this year for the Season of Bangla Drama, appropriately for its eighteenth year, is ‘Coming of Age’ with a selection of plays, readings, drama and Q and A’s available to view from Thursday 12 to Saturday 21 November.
Events
A Season of Bangla Drama has always been a great way to showcase local talent, as well as putting the spotlight on a range of issues relevant to the British-Bengali experience. It has a programme in both languages, incorporating plays from east London as well as West Bengal, India and Sylhet Bangladesh.
Submissions this season cover themes as universal as family, estrangement, and the strength of the human spirit to more socially aware tales of class struggle, prejudice and loss due to Covid-19.
There will be a fringe programme of events featuring a digital cook-along, online film screening followed by a live Q&A, international youth writing project, and a photography exhibition with online tour.

With such a diverse programme of events, it promises to be another stimulating Season of Bangla Drama.
