Alumnus in semi-finals of Science without Borders 2016 Ambassador competition
Eduardo Martinez, who studied on the MEng Mechanical Engineering programme through a Science without Borders Brazil-UK scholarship in 2012-13, made the semi-finals of a competition to become the 2016 Ambassador of the exchange scheme’s UK variant. Science without Borders (SwB) is run by the Brazilian government to enable students to undertake sandwich courses at top universities around the world. The competition was organised by the British Embassy in Brazil to promote projects and partnerships of students who form and hold links with Britain after their period of study in the country.
Eduardo, who is QMUL’s Alumni Ambassador for Brazil and supports the International team with their work, was among 10 semi-finalists competing for the award. He said: “As I understand it, the Embassy selected me as a semi-finalist not only due to my role representing QMUL - giving speeches, answering prospective students’ queries and managing staff visits to Brazil - but specially for my participation with SwB UK Alumni events and the Embaixadores da Rainha blog about Brazil-UK exchange, that has so far had 10,000 visitors. Opportunities to develop bonds with the UK and to share knowledge from our university experience for the benefit and development of others are aplenty, and I believe it is our role as alumni to make sure these chances don’t go wasted.”
