Commuting Students

Commuting students are known to be at greater risk of dropping out than those that live on campus or in the local area. They may need to negotiate a long and complicated journey to university. As a result, it is helpful if you can ensure any ice-breaker activities or meetings you arrange with students are set up early enough in the day for commuters to engage effectively.

A range of facilities are also available that may be particularly helpful to these students including;

  • Students Union Hub resources include microwaves where they can heat up their lunch and an Amazon Locker, where they can have Amazon deliveries stored.
  • Storage lockers [PDF 210KB] on the ground floor of the Francis Bancroft Building for students to store their belongings on campus.
  • A laptop loan service available in Mile End Library for students who have forgotten or do not wish to bring their own laptops on campus.
