Green Mary Day: 24th September 2015, Mile End Campus
7 August 2015
QMUL Sustainability Day is back by popular demand on 24th September 2015! Make your way down to The Student Village from 11am-3pm to discover all the fantastic opportunities that the QMUL Sustainability team and their local partners have to offer to both students and staff.
Get a free pedal-powered smoothie
Make sure you visit the smoothie bikes in Library Square to pedal for a free fresh fruit smoothie! The bikes will be out from 11am until all the fruit is gone. Smoothies are available on a first come, first serve basis.
Visit our free bike mechanic, and get your bike security marked for free.
We’ll have a bike mechanic on site from 9am, offering a free maintenance service with a qualified bike mechanic. The only cost involved will the cost of any new parts required. The Police will also be on site providing free bike security marking services. Getting your bike marked means that it can be returned to you if it is stolen and later recovered by the Police.
Meet Mr Recycle More and R3 the robots
Mr Recycle More, the robot made from 33 recycling bins, stands at over 5-meters tall and will be dishing out recycling tips to QMUL staff and students during the event. He’ll be touring the campus with his compatriot, R3 the mini binbot. Both robots will be available for selfies throughout the day.
Green Mary Student Group
If you’re interested in environmental and sustainability issues, joining the Green Mary student group is a great chance to meet like-minded students, grow a positive environmental movement on campus, and gain valuable leadership and project management skills for your CV. Come and visit the Green Mary stall (located in the colourful Green Mary gazebo) to talk to current Green Mary students, and sign up to find out more about their events.
Student Switch Off
The Halls of Residence energy saving competition, Student Switch Off, will be launching for another year of environmental excitement and Fairtrade ice cream.
The premise of the competition is simple- students in QMUL Halls of Residence sign up to receive email updates on energy saving behaviours, quizzes and competitions through the year. These include regular photo competitions and prize draws, with prizes including meal vouchers for the Curve, vouchers for Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, and Genesis cinema tickets. Students put the energy saving tips in place in their flat in order to decrease the amount of energy their hall uses during the course of the year. At the end of the year, we look at the energy consumption data, and the hall with the greatest saving wins a celebration in May. Past celebrations have included Ben & Jerry’s ice cream parties and BBQs.
