Save a Banana Day- The Library Fairtrade Banana Cook Book
26 March 2014
To show our support for the Save a Banana Campaign we are promoting the Library’s teams Fairtrade event which highlights the importance of bananas and what you can do with them when they are a little less yellow!
Case Study- The Fairtrade Banana Event
Library Services staff ran a Fairtrade awareness event on 7 March at all three library sites to highlight Fairtrade fortnight (24 February to 9 March). Organised by Mandy Pearce, Rebecca McDonald, Maryam Ali and Aqil Zahid the event was an opportunity to eat cake that was donated for the event at lunchtime in the staffrooms and to hold a (free) raffle for boxes of Alara Fairtrade Muesli.
This year the theme from the Fairtrade Foundation was the banana! Maryam kindly created a recipe booklet with delicious treats. The idea for this event was to use Fairtrade ingredients and to raise awareness of Fairtrade.
“Fairtrade is a strategy for poverty alleviation and sustainable development. Its purpose is to create opportunities for producers and workers who have been economically disadvantaged or marginalized by the conventional trading system."
Well done everyone for raising awareness for Fairtrade!
