Green Mary is QMUL’s sustainability engagement brand, incorporating Sustainability Day, the Green Mary [staff workbook], the Green Mary Student Group, Green Mary Week, and the annual Sustainability Awards.
The aim of the Green Mary Staff and Student initiatives is to engage people across QMUL in sustainability issues, so that we can work together to achieve a sustainable future.
The Green Mary staff workbook is QMUL’s competitive sustainability accreditation scheme. Across QMUL staff form teams and follow a workbook of sustainability-themed criteria and activities between September and May each year. In early June their work is audited by trained student volunteers, and their hard work is celebrated during the annual Sustainability awards in July. Teams can achieve Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum awards for their work.

The Green Mary student group provides a number of opportunities for students to actively shape QMUL’s sustainability, and develop their own practicable knowledge and understanding of sustainability issues. Opportunities offered by the group include action and awareness campaigns, career development training and opportunities, community volunteering, and social occasions. Through the Green Mary student group, students are offered the opportunity to sit on QMUL committee groups and actively shape QMUL Sustainability’s projects and initiatives.
