Campus lifestyle

Queen Mary is a campus university based in London's Mile End. We've been teaching here since 1887 and have expanded a lot over the years. Set alongside the historic Regent's Canal, our self-contained, residential campus is one of the largest in the capital. We also have a dedicated campus for our medicine and dentistry students.

Everything you need in one place

With plenty of greenery and outdoor spaces, our campus offers students a safe and peaceful space to relax, study and socialise. Everything you need is here. As well as lecture theatres, laboratories and an extensive 24-hour library, we have shops, restaurants, a bar, gym, bank and accommodation all on site. All our facilities are only ever a five-minute walk away, which makes getting up for 9am lectures a lot easier!

Vibrant student community

There is a great atmosphere on campus. Queen Mary staff and students are known for being friendly and welcoming, and there are lots of opportunities to get involved. Our student societies can often be found in Library Square, the heart of campus, showing off their talents, campaigning for different causes, or giving away tasty treats.

There’s so much on offer here – you have a huge Library, a really active Students’ Union and great sports facilities. It feels like a real community. It’s like a little village inside London

We have a diverse student body representing more than 162 nationalities, so you’ll get the chance to make friends with people from all walks of life.

Top facilities

From our astronomical observatory to our Bloomberg trading terminals and our 41-seat cinema, our Mile End campus is home to many modern teaching and learning facilities. We continually invest in our campus to make sure all our students have access to the latest technology and enjoy an exceptional learning environment.

Queens' Building

On this campus you will also find our iconic Queens' Building. Built in 1887 as the People's Palace, the Queens’ Building was originally designed to bring education and culture to the people of east London and is a symbol of our roots in, and commitment to, the local community.

The building was named by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother in order to reflect our proud association with four Queens: Queen Victoria; Queen Mary of Teck; The Queen Mother; and our Patron, Queen Elizabeth II.

The city is your playground

When you’re on campus, it's easy to forget you are in the middle of a bustling city. However, central London is only a short Tube ride away. From Mile End station it takes just five minutes to get to Liverpool Street, and 15 minutes to Oxford Circus.

Our location means that Queen Mary students are in a great position to take advantage of everything this incredible city has to offer.

There are so many different things to do and places to go –it's one of the best things about being in the city
