Programmes ran by the Widening Participation team are designed for small numbers of students, in order to maximise impact. The majority of our work is open to eligible students pan London, however a small number are publicised solely to priority schools within the below 11 target boroughs in London and Essex.
Using national data we have identified 11 target boroughs for our work. This publicly available data relates to free school meals, areas of high deprivation and rates of participation in higher education.
The 11 London boroughs we target are:
- Barking and Dagenham
- Tower Hamlets
- Waltham Forest
Please note: Widening Participation eligibility criteria apply to all our activities.
Teacher and staff contacts, in schools and colleges across London, are hugely valued because they identify eligible students and promote our programmes.
Every month 600+ teachers pan-London receive our E-bulletins containing details of many activities and programmes taking place across campus. All the programmes promoted on our E-bulletins are for students from state schools.
QMUL also has long standing partnerships with two local schools.
