£3000 per year Excellence Scholarships

Queen Mary is delighted to announce new additions to our generous range of scholarships for home students, designed to attract the best and brightest regardless of background: Science and Engineering Excellence Scholarships and Modern Foreign Language Excellence Scholarships.

Please note: Eligibility for these scholarships is based purely on academic performance and is not linked to a student's household income.

Science and Engineering Excellence Scholarships

This scheme is part of QM’s approach to encouraging the best qualified  students into subject areas which have been identified as essential to UK economic growth, and which are highly sought after by employers.

Queen Mary Science and Engineering Excellence Scholarships are available for the following programmes taught within the Faculty of Science and Engineering, covering biological and  chemical sciences, materials, engineering (including electronic, mechanical and aerospace), computer science, maths and physics.

Excellence Scholarships are worth £3,000 a year for each year of study, paid directly to you  – a total of up to £9,000 over your course (or £12,000 for MEng/MSci students).

Who are they for?

All students who achieve at least:

  • AAA in key A-levels, or
  • 38 points in the International Baccalaureate, or
  • DDD in the BTEC National Diploma, or
  • Distinction in 45 level three credits in the Access to HE Diploma

and accept QM as their firm choice are guaranteed to receive the scholarship.

How do I apply?

There is no need to apply separately for the Excellence Scholarships.  Your application through UCAS automatically enters you into consideration for an award.

  1. This scheme is available only to students who apply for and enroll in a single-honours course in the Science and Engineering Faculty in the 2012/13 academic year. See full list of eligible courses.
  2. Equivalent qualifications are: three distinctions in the BTEC National Diploma; 38 points or more in the International Baccalaureate; or Distinction in 45 level three credits in the Access to HE Diploma. 8. Payment of the scholarship for the first year is automatic for all of those with the requisite entry qualifications described above. Payment in subsequent years is contingent on overall academic achievement at a First Class standard in each year of study (i.e. you must achieve an overall first class mark of above 70% in every progression year to maintain the scholarship).
  9. Where a student experiences extenuating circumstances that affect academic performance or progress, continued receipt of a scholarship will be considered within the College’s existing extenuating circumstances procedures.
  10. This scholarship scheme operates independently of the QM National Scholarship Programme and QM Bursary Scheme. You could receive more than one award.
  11. The £3,000 per year excellence scholarsip replaces the previously advertised High Achiever Scholarship which was offered by the School of Biological and Chemical Sciences.
