The top of the homepage lists the website's five main areas, which include:

Prospective students
This area contains important information about undergraduate teaching, postgraduate teaching, learning and student life at Queen Mary for both home and international students. This should be the first port of call for all prospective students considering applying to the College.

Courses
This area includes the complete catalogue of undergraduate and postgraduate study opportunities across our Schools and Departments. It also includes 'Rough Guides' to each subject area to help you make the right choice. We've also included research and staff profiles because we think it is important to choose a university that offers substantial expertise in your chosen discipline.

Research
We are a research-led university and this section will provide you with information about our research and research community.

Business
We have always been committed to building strong relationships with business and industry to help transfer innovative ideas that a research-led university like Queen Mary has to the marketplace. This area includes information about technology transfer, business development and training opportunities for businesses and industry.

About us

Extending your experience

The website contains many areas developed specifically to help our popular visitors. These include areas that will be of particular interest to our prospective students, such as QM:Insight, QM:Perspectives and Virtual Tour of Mile End campus. We also have special areas for the media with searchable resources of our courses, news and events.

PC users can also download the Queen Mary Toolbar, which has a quick search facility for the website, experts guide, news, events and the World Wide Web. It also shows our latest news and events along with a facility to stop those annoying pop-up advertisements on some sites.

Once inside the website, all pages have a list of links on the left-hand side that will take you to secondary sections within that particular area. Depending on the extent of the information many links expand to show tertiary sections of information.

Screen shot highlighting the breadcrumb trailBreadcrumb trail
As you progress through the website, a trail of links to the parent section is laid down at the top of the page. We call this a breadcrumb trail and it will help you to return to previous sections of information.

While visiting pages within the website, you will come across small image- based advertisement links. They are there to highlight related or new information that may be of importance to users.

Hints
We don't like surprising our visitors. To help users we qualify all links that go to external websites or downloadable files with hints in square parenthesis. For example a link to a downloadable Adobe Acrobat file will have the file extension and the file size next to it in square parenthesis, [PDF 30KB]. In some instances, we leave a note at the top of the page.

Web environment at Queen Mary

We are in the process of redesigning our online resources to create a more consistent web environment for internal and external users. We are redesigning our websites to be more accessible.

All new websites at Queen Mary are being redesigned centrally to keep the brand and the navigation consistent. Consistent navigation, style and presentation will mean that users can browse through different Queen Mary resources with ease and familiarity without diverting the focus from the information. Users can then use the global navigation, found at the top of all new departmental websites, to find their way back to the central site.
