Introduction

Welcome to research at Queen Mary, University of London.

Our research mission is "to produce research of the highest quality which places it in the top rank of universities". It was adopted by the Council and contains the vision of the College as a research-led university in which most academic staff are productive researchers, in which research of the highest quality is undertaken, in which the highest grades are sought in the periodic Research Assessment Exercises (RAE), and in which scholarship, intellectual enquiry, publications and other forms of research output are encouraged, recognised and appropriately rewarded.

The research mission of the college will be achieved with three strategic themes:

  • Develop and resource research structures to achieve the research mission
  • Seek continuous improvements through annual RAE Dry Runs which will benchmark us against the best research groups in the UK and world-wide
  • Promote the Graduate School to improve recruitment, supervision and training of research students.

The results of the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE), published in December 2008, confirmed Queen Mary’s place in the leading group of research-led universities.
