QMUL climbs to 34th in the Guardian University Guide

Queen Mary has been ranked the 34th best university in the UK by The Guardian University Guide 2017. QMUL has climbed four places since last year’s guide was published, with the ratings for course, teaching, feedback satisfaction and graduate prospects all going up.

The School of Languages, Linguistics and Film had significant success, with the university ranked first in the Media and Film Studies subject area. The School of Medicine and Dentistry also performed particularly well this year: we were ranked second for Medicine and third for Dentistry. The School of Law was placed fifth for Law while History was ninth, and the School of Politics and International Relations broke into the top 20 for Politics for the first time as it placed 16th.

Ramadan Mubarak! (Blessed Ramadan!)

Ramadan began yesterday on Monday 6 June and will continue for 30 days until Wednesday 6 July (dates may vary). In the month of Ramadan, observant adult Muslims give up food or drink during the hours of daylight. It will be an even greater challenge this year with long days meaning there will be more daylight hours to fast though. There is guidance on our Faith website which aims to increase understanding about the month of Ramadan and offers advice on how to be supportive of those who are fasting.

Grow plants and trees to help our bees!

UK bees need our help and that's why researchers at Queen Mary are asking for your help in planting bee-friendly flowers. Brighten up your garden, balcony or window-sill with flowers like lavender, geraniums and sunflowers, and even herbs like chives and mint. The flowers might attract some of the thousands of bees that will be released from the Queen Mary rooftops later this month. And don't forget to take a photo of your bee-friendly garden to be in with a chance to win £100.
