QMUL 130th anniversary – #QMUL130 competition

On Sunday 14 May 2017, QMUL celebrated its 130th anniversary. Throughout May, we will be celebrating our vibrant and distinguished history and we want you to get involved. We want to hear about your experience of studying at QMUL, so please share a photo, video clip, memory or memorabilia that best reflects your time with us. We will showcase the best entries on our website and social media channels, where the top three will receive a prize.

The Guardian ranks QMUL best in London for Medicine, Dentistry, Law and Film
The latest results which focus on the quality of teaching, student satisfaction and employability mean that QMUL is the top university in London for all four subjects.

QMUL PhD designer joins residency programme at the Design Museum
A digital artist and PhD student at QMUL has been awarded the 2017 Designers in Residence which will feature her work at the newly opened Design Museum.

Syria Solidarity Society 'Highly Commended' in NUS awards
The Syria Solidarity Society came second out of 271 societies for the 'most improved society of the year' category in the National Union of Students (NUS) National Societies Awards 2017. QMUL Pokémon Society was also shortlisted for 'best hobby and interest society'.
 IT update following NHS cyber-attack

Following the NHS England cyber-attack (WannaCry ransomware), we are pleased to report that we are close to having completed the necessary checks needed to make sure that all QMUL computers have up-to-date security patches and antivirus updates applied. Please do not open any email attachments from unknown sources or from a known source but with unknown/suspicious content. Also, please don’t open any email attachment or files coming from Barts Health NHS Trust until the situation is fully resolved at Barts. If you suspect that your device has been affected, you should turn your computer off (power down) immediately and contact the IT Service Desk on 020 7882 8888. More.

QMUL Bursary 2016/17 – second instalment date Wednesday 24 May

 

The second instalment date for the QMUL Bursary 2016/17 is tomorrow, Wednesday 24 May. Please allow up to four days for your money to appear in your bank account. You can check the details in your online bursary entitlement letter by logging in to your Student Finance application. More.

 

QMUL Bursary 2017/18 – am I eligible next year?

 

You need to get a household income assessment done each year in order to be assessed for a QMUL bursary. If you are from a low-income family, but you do not wish to take out any loans, you could still be eligible for the QMUL Bursary, but you do need to be assessed by the relevant authority. Information for how to do this is available online.

Get paid to work as a QMUL Open Day ambassador

 

We are looking for current students (both undergraduate and postgraduate) to support with the delivery of the QMUL Open Days on Friday 23 and Saturday 24 June, 7.45am–5pm. You will be paid the London living wage of £9.75 per hour. Find out more.
 

Are you interested in improving your English language skills and building your global understanding?

WEAR Sustain wearable technologies and smart textiles competition
 
WEAR Sustain is offering up to €2.4 million in funding for teams of creatives and technologists to develop the next generation of sustainable wearables and e-textile ideas. The programme is seeking applications from teams of art, design, technology or engineering practitioners to co-develop compelling, ethical, innovative and sustainable solutions for wearable technology and e-textiles. Applications for the Movember student ambassador programme 2017 are now open. Ambassadors will receive training on all aspects of the organisation and be given the necessary tools and support to run a successful campaign with fellow students, gaining key skills and experience in leadership, marketing, events and fundraising in the process. Recent snatch thefts involving scooters on Bancroft and Mile End Road

 

In recent weeks there has been increasing reports of mobiles and bags being snatched on Bancroft Road and Mile End Road. East London is generally a great and safe place to study and socialise, but it’s always sensible to take precautions to minimise risk to your personal safety and personal belongings.
