Bigger bookshop

John Smith’s, the Mile End campus bookshop, has re-opened in a new, bigger space next to Ground café.

Newly renovated Griff Inn Bar and Kitchen

The QMSU-run Whitechapel café and restaurant has re-opened with a new menu following refurbishments.

New games room at Whitechapel Campus

A games room will soon open in the Griff Inn Bar and Kitchen Building, offering darts, table tennis and table football, with board games arriving in the near future.

IT services for students

Print services

New student print and copy facilities are now available in all student service managed labs, the Hive and the libraries. The new service promises to reduce the time spent hanging around printers waiting for your work to appear. The extension of the QM iPay system also means there is less hassle in topping up your account. Heads up: all printers will now print double-sided unless you change the settings.

QMplus is our new online learning environment, which replaces Blackboard for the majority of students this year. It is built for you and contains a wealth of resources and activities that you are likely to use to support your studies.

Blackboard is the former online learning environment. Courses within undergraduate Medicine (MBBS) will still be using Blackboard during the 2012/13 academic year.
If you are studying on the MBBS programme, then you should log in to Blackboard at:


The College is introducing Microsoft Office 365 for email and calendaring. You get more storage with 25GB for each user and can easily access it from your mobile device.

We've just expanded and updated our Q-Review service, which records live lectures and teaching materials. Presenters can choose to record their lectures and make them available on QMplus and Blackboard – so you should be able to watch them anytime, anywhere, on any device.

Sustainability programmes

We want to encourage you to put forward your ideas, visions or concerns of how the College operates to our Sustainability Committee, groups and forums.

Student Switch Off

The Student Switch Off is an energy-saving competition between Halls of Residence. Halls from different universities compete against each other to reduce their energy usage from the baseline year.

Our Community

All students should receive a flyer called Our Community during the start of term. This is our charter-style document that has recently been developed by both the Students’ Union and the College. It is an important document for both students and the institution. In Our Community we set out what you can expect from the Institution, and what, in turn, the Institution can expect from you.
