Student profile:
Ryan Maginn, Medicine“I chose to study at Barts and The London because I was keen to study in London and at the open day I was made to feel at home.
“There is a good mix of learning styles and technologies also – it’s not purely PBL; it’s not purely lectures. There are excellent relations between staff and students, with the staff keen to be involved in student affairs and events, and the students being part of a ‘community’ of medics and dentists at Barts, with a strong and proud identity and history.
“We mix the old with the new (with almost a millennium of history), and it’s quite unique to be a student as part of that. We’ve just got the new medical building in Whitechapel, and the old medical building adjacent to it has been refitted. We will have the first ‘Health Campus’ in London, and that makes for an excellent environment in which to study medicine.
“Living in east London is great. It’s cheaper here, so we have more money to spend than students elsewhere in London. The students are really friendly and laid back and I like that ‘old school’ work hard, play harder attitude!”
