‘Barker says adding BOE stimulus risks stoking inflation more than growth’

Speaking at the launch of Queen Mary’s School of Economics and Finance, a former policy maker at the Monetary Policy Committee warned that the Bank of England risks raising inflation if it continues with its quantitative easing measures. Karen Barker CBE said: “Achievement of the precise inflation target at a particular moment seems less important than supporting an overall economic outturn which minimises the risk of a long period of low growth. Some recasting of the target to ensure that there is sufficient flexibility might be the sign of a more mature monetary regime.”
