Professor Sharpe argues that British literary culture is being replaced with “the light and trite”, often influenced by the thirst for celebrity, in some publications including The Sunday Times. “We need scholars willing to communicate the most difficult ideas clearly and interestingly, and media and review pages that give them space to do so,” he said.
