Government funding cuts could diminish Britain’s reputation as a global education power-house, which could lead to a decline in vital foreign students. Queen Mary principal Professor Gaskell said: “I think it’s going to be very difficult, but not impossible, for individual institutions to continue to transmit a very positive message about their own higher education and research provision, when the UK is apparently devaluing the importance it attaches to higher education.”
