A series of lectures will be taking place at Queen Mary to celebrate the remarkable history of the Olympics, organised by Professor Rubin. She said: “Our public lectures - which in 2010 include guest speakers specialising in cultural history, classics and political science - will illuminate key moments in the long history of the Olympic Games and attempt to convey the often dramatic economical, political, and cultural landscape behind them.” Topics of the lectures include a comparison of the ancient games in Greece with today’s modern occasion as well as their impact on British politics since 1908.
