Shanghai's Jiaotong University’s ranking of world universities places Queen Mary’s Department of Physics at 78 in the world and position 8 in the UK. Head of Physics Professor William Spence was delighted with the results and said: “Our research is in the most fundamental and fast-moving areas. Our students are satisfied with their degrees and their job prospects.” The Chinese university’s rankings are based on various academic measures and awards won by staff and alumni, including Nobel prizes.
