‘UK author wins $75,000 US Cundill History Prize’

Queen Mary historian Professor Lisa Jardine has been awarded the Cundill History Prize for her book Going Dutch: How England Plundered Holland's Glory. She was “ecstatic” after winning the $75,000 prize and regards the award as a great “responsibility”. She said: “We historians have to keep telling our nations about what made them, what created them and what will make their future.” Professor Jardine’s book concerns the so-called Glorious Revolution of 1688 where Britain was invaded “like Iraq was by the Western forces, because we must never forget the past of which we are made,” she added.
