Researchers have said giving paracetamol to babies after they have been immunised could reduce the effectiveness of the vaccine. Czech scientists studied 450 babies and found the fevers were reduced but also a response to the vaccine was slower. Professor McKnight said the risks might only occur if the pain killer was taken at the time of vaccination and not afterwards as a result of a fever. She said: “More research will be required to uncover the full effect that this reduction might have on the protection given by vaccination.”
