Scholarship of £15,000 a year offers low-income local students chance to study at top London medical school

A generous new scholarship to enable outstanding local students from low-income households to study medicine at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry – part of Queen Mary, University of London - has been announced by the Medical College of St Bartholomew’s Hospital Trust.
The Barts and The London Scholarship, worth £15,000 a year – for up to six years of study – will be available to students from families with a combined income not greater than £25,000 who achieve above standard entry requirements for Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, and the highest score, of those applying for the scholarship, in the UK Clinical Aptitude Test. Eligible students must also attend a school or sixth form college within the North and East London boroughs of Enfield, Haringey, Hackney, Tower Hamlets, Waltham Forest, Newham, Redbridge, Barking and Dagenham, and Havering.
The first Scholarship award will be made in 2012 for years of study 2012/13 to 2017/18. After this, awards will be made at the discretion of the Trust based on the availability of funds.
The Medical College of St Bartholomew’s Hospital Trust is a registered charity, whose sole charitable purpose is to promote all aspects of medical and dental education and research at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry.
