Did you know that UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon, former CIA Director David Petraeu, and the Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong all have one thing in common? They are graduates of Masters’ programmes in Public Administration (MPA).
Queen Mary, University of London has launched its very first Masters in Public Administration, starting in September 2013, and is now the only location in London to offer the option of studying for the qualification full-time over one year, instead of two.
Across the world, the MPA has become increasingly popular in recent years as a route to prepare people to serve as senior managers at the highest level in local, regional and national government, and increasingly in NGOs, regulatory bodies and the not for profit sectors.
Perri 6, Professor in Public Management at Queen Mary, said, “This is the perfect qualification for ambitious people that work in policy making, advising policymakers, running public services and regulating organisations.
“Unlike specialist qualifications, such as economics or accounting, an MPA can advance careers flexibly in many different fields in public authorities or public services. The MPA can enhance every public manager’s skills and leadership abilities.”
