Professor Philip Ogden elected to the Academy of Social Sciences

Acting Principal, Professor Philip Ogden, has been elected an Academician of the Academy of Social Sciences for his outstanding contribution to the advancement of social sciences.

Professor Ogden’s research expertise in population geography includes: general migration trends in France and Western Europe; African-Caribbean migrants in France; household changes and migration in UK and France; and new migrants in London's Docklands.

The Academy of Social Sciences’ mission is to promote social sciences in the United Kingdom for the public benefit, responding to Government and other consultations on behalf of the social science community. Its Academicians are distinguished scholars and practitioners from academia and the public and private sectors.

Two Queen Mary alumni have also been elected Academicians in 2009: Professor Andrew Blaikie (PhD Geography 1987) is now Professor of Historical Sociology at the University of Aberdeen; and Professor Judith Squires (PhD Political History 1989) is now Professor of Political Theory at the University of Bristol.
