Starting your studies: student induction

Term starts on Monday 17th September 2018 and teaching starts on Monday 24th September 2018.

Please note that postgraduate students from the School of Mathematical Sciences will complete programme enrolment in week commencing Monday 17th September 2018 in the Enrolment Centre in the Octagon, Queens’ Building, Mile End. Please see here closer to the timefor further information.

The School of Mathematical Sciences MSc Welcome Event will likely be taking place on Wednesday 19th September 2018 and further details of this event will be provided later. At the event you will meet key members of staff related to your programme of study and receive important information regarding your studies and the support available.

MSc Mathematics

As a new student starting this September you are required to meet with the Programme Director, Dr Rosemary Harris(link sends e-mail) (link sends e-mail), during Welcome Week to discuss your background and module selection.  This individual meeting is compulsory before your module choices can be approved.  Further details and an online scheduler to sign-up for a convenient slot can can be found on the MSc Maths QMplus page(link is external).

MSc Mathematical Finance

As a new student starting this September you will have the opportunity to meet with your Programme Director Dr. Michael Phillips(link sends e-mail) (link sends e-mail), to discuss your elective module choices. This meeting will take place within the first two weeks of term. Please ensure you have looked over the programme outline before attending your appointment in order to aid discussion and decision making.

You will attend mandatory pre-sessional modules in the School of Mathematical Sciences (SMS). You also have the option of attending the School of Economics and Finance (SEF) pre-sessional module 'Matrix Algebra'. To aid your decision upon whether or not it will be beneficial for you to attend please refer to the the SEF Induction page here(link is external).

MSc Financial Computing

As a new student starting this September you will have the opportunity to meet with your Programme Director Dr. Michael Phillips(link sends e-mail) (link sends e-mail), to discuss your elective module choices. This meeting will take place in the first two weeks of term. Please ensure you have looked over the programme outline before attending your appointment in order to aid discussion and decision making.

MSc Network Science

As a new student starting this September you are invited to meet with the Programme Director, Dr Ginestra Bianconi, to discuss the programme and your module choices during welcome week. This meeting is an important part of your programme induction. To arrange your meeting please email Dr Bianconi(link sends e-mail) your full availability during Welcome Week, so that we can allocate you an appointment accordingly.  A separate induction event for the MSc Network Science class of 2017–18 will take place within the first two weeks of term.

Please note that the timetable will be subject to change up to, and during, the first couple of weeks of term to accommodate changes in student numbers registering for modules and necessary room allocations.
