Profile

Rosemary Harris is a Reader in Applied Mathematics, member of the Dynamical Systems and Statistical Physics Research Group, and External Fellow of the London Mathematical Laboratory. She currently teaches Introduction to Probability to first-year undergraduates.

Her research interests are at the interface of applied mathematics and theoretical physics, focusing on the structure and applications of nonequilibrium statistical mechanics. This involves the mathematics of interacting particle systems; in particular, employing the tools of large deviation theory to characterize the probability of rare events, for instance, via the study of current fluctuations (away from the typical, or expected, values).  See the publications list for examples of recent work, ranging from the theoretical framework of statistical mechanics to insights for real-world problems, e.g., decision-modelling and transport.
