Study at QMUL

The Life Sciences Initiative (LSI) has an active and innovative education portfolio. Combining world-leading research with outstanding teaching in high quality facilities in the vibrant heart of east London, QMUL prepares graduates with the knowledge and expertise to excel, while providing an incredible London university experience.

Life sciences education is a priority area in the UK due to the perceived lack of well-trained life sciences graduates with a high level of numeracy and the ability to deal with the large data sets that modern technology increasingly is making available. The life sciences sector in the UK and worldwide is substantial and growing, and there is likely to be an increasing demand for well-qualified graduates in this area.

Life sciences degrees

New courses that will be part of the LSI are being developed to provide a modern set of programmes to meet the needs of a growing sector.

World-leading research

As a Russell Group institution our academic research is world-renowned and will often form the basis of our degrees; our students benefit from being taught by the absolute experts in their field and by having important academic research being passed onto them in lectures and seminars.

The results of the most recent national assessment of research – the Research Excellence Framework (REF 2014) – have confirmed our place in the very top group of research-led universities in the UK. Overall, we were ranked ninth among multi-faculty universities in the UK.
