Accommodation, Facilities and living costs

Study Abroad with English - Accommodation

Being a campus based university means that all the facilities that you need are on  campus and this includes our modern Halls of Residence.  Queen Mary will guarantee you accommodation for the duration of your programme in one of its modern residences, located on the Mile End campus.

There is a variety of different halls of residence to choose from. All the halls are self-catering and are located next to the academic facilities where you will have your classes. You will have your own room and share a kitchen bathroom and living area with six other students. Most rooms are ensuite (have a private bathroom).

Living in our accommodation with British and other international students will give you the opportunity to make friends and truly experience life as a student in the UK. Accommodation costs

The cost of accommodation depends on the length of programme that you choose. A standard single bedroom costs approximately £95-£100 per week. You can find more information at Student Accommodation. Please note that housing contracts run for the duration of the semester e.g. September to January and January to June.  If you decide to leave earlier in March, you will not be refunded any monies.

Living expenses

We recommend that you allow £700 - £800 / month for living expenses. This includes: accommodation, utility bills, food, clothing, UK travel, study related books and equipment.

Facilities and Support

We have all the facilities and services that you would expect from a university including our award winning library.  Our library houses over 600,000 books and can accommodation more than 1000 students at a time.  It also has many advanced IT-based facilities, including desktop access to online databases, inter-library catalogues and electronic journals.

We have an extensive network of PCs for your use, about 1,000 are open access and are distributed in clusters around the campus.  Should you encounter problems, we have a help-desk and our IT services staff are available to assist you in your use of the facilities.

With a dedicated Study Abroad office; the Director of Study Abroad and the Study Abroad Officers are available to give general academic advice and to help if you experience any difficulties.   There are also designated advisers for Study Abroad students in each department, who can give guidance on course choices and assessments.  Our Advice and Counselling service was recently voted number one out of 57 universities in a recent I-graduate survey.
