10 things to do in London this Summer!
16 June 2015
Summer is here, though sometimes in the UK it doesn’t feel like it! But with heatwaves predicted, London will hopefully see a beautiful, sunny summer so take advantage of it. Our city has something to offer all year around, but London comes even more alive and colourful during the summer months.
Here are 10 things to do in London this summer:
1. Sunset Safari at the London Zoo
This summer London Zoo is offering a self-guided safari trail so you can see the animals at feeding time, listen to talks by conservationists, scientists and keepers, and visit a World Food Market. Learn all about animal behaviour and enjoy being on safari in the middle of our great city.
2. Open Air Theatre
Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre offers a range of plays, musicals and films. Their outdoor auditorium has 1250 seats and the show will go on regardless of the weather! So bring comfy blankets, cushions and a picnic, and snuggle up for an evening of fun.
3. Globe Theatre
If you have never been to the Globe before, make that your one thing to do this summer. Experience how Shakespeare’s audience would have enjoyed the theatre in Elizabethan times!
4. Open Air events at Trafalgar Square
Trafalgar Square holds free open air events throughout the year, but particularly in the summer season, such as protests, gigs and even opera. Just turn up and you are bound to see something interesting!
5. Gigs in the park
Hyde Park holds a number of gigs during summer months, including some top name performers. This year British Summer Time at Hyde Park is featuring Taylor Swift, Kylie and Blur as the festival headliners!
6. Go for a swim
Dive into one of London’s many pools, ponds or lidos. Here’s a hand list of best outdoor swimming pools in London, as selected by the Telegraph.
7. Cinema under a starry sky
London has several outdoor cinemas, and they are becoming more and more popular. From Somerset House, to Rooftop Film Club in Dalston/Peckham, Hot Tub Cinema and the Floating Cinema, you can enjoy a range of cinematic experiences!
8. Notting Hill Carnival
The biggest street party in town - Notting Hill Carnival has been going strong for decades. Every year it’s an event full of great music, Caribbean flavours, enthusiastic dancing and vibrant colours.
9. Stroll amidst the flowers at Kew Gardens
Kew Gardens is full of an exciting variety of flora. Enjoy one of the finest rose gardens in London or search for more exotic flowers! Kew Gardens offer a wonderful place to get lost in for several hours.
10. Float on a barge
Queen Mary University of London’s very own (okay, it’s not ours, but we feel quite protective of it!) Regent’s canal is right on your doorstep at Mile End. There are several companies that will take you on a barge so you can see London from a new perspective.
These are just some of the many things you can do in London this summer. So put some sunscreen on, grab your shades and enjoy!
