    Queen Mary has been ranked in the top 10 per cent of universities in the UK by an official government assessment. The 11th in the UK out of 132 institutions according to tables published in Guardian. The latest results of 2008 Research Assessment Exercise confirm Queen Mary’s place in the very top group of universities.

    The Times Higher Education commented “the biggest star among the research-intensive institutions was Queen Mary, University of London.”

    Queen Mary is ranked ahead of many other leading universities, including Kings College London, Bristol, Sheffield, Leeds, Nottingham, Birmingham, Southampton, Liverpool and Newcastle.

    Entry requirements

    Recognition of Chinese qualifications for Undergraduate Foundation Courses (1 year)

    Academic:

    • High School Diploma ( Gaozhong Biye Zhengshu ) with average 80%+
    • 590+ in College Entrance Exam ( Gao Kao )
    • 85%+ in all subjects for second year Senior High School ( Gao Er ) students from leading Middle Schools ( Zhongdian Zhongxue )

    English:

    • IELTS 5.0 / TOEFL 510 CBT 180

    Recognition of Chinese qualifications for undergraduate entry

    Academic:

    • UK Foundation or
    • 3 A levels (grades A-C)
    • International Baccalaureate (IB)

    Recognition of Chinese qualifications for graduate entry

    Master's Degrees (all one year):

    Academic:

    • 4 year Bachelor's degree from 211 University with 75%+ average
    • 4 year Bachelor's degree from non-211 University within top 250 with average 85%+

    The usual entrance requirement to a taught Master's degree is a 4 year Bachelor's degree from a 211 University. However, all applications are considered on an individual basis and students may be admitted to Master's programmes with a lower level degree if they have work experience relevant to the degree applied for.

    Students with a three year Diploma ( dazhuan ) from a recognised institution may apply for the Postgraduate Foundation Programme , a year long course which will gain them access to a Master's programme.

    Students who have completed an undergraduate degree with English as the language of instruction in Hong Kong do not need to take an IELTS or TOEFL test

    Research Degree (Mphil/PhD: 3 years):

    The usual entrance requirement for a research degree is a Master's degree with upper class second honours from a UK or Chinese university. However many departments also accept student with the equivalent of an upper second-class Bachelor's degree from a UK university.

    Students who have completed an undergraduate or Master's degree with English as the language of instruction in Hong Kong do not need to take an IELTS or TOEFL test.
