Information for students from Belgium
Welcome
Queen Mary has a long history of welcoming students from around the world. Over the years, many thousands of international students have graduated from the college and gone on to pursue successful careers. Today, we are home to students from more than 100 different countries. This diversity contributes to a lively and welcoming community which should make you feel comfortable and at home.
One of the largest colleges of the University of London and one of the few with fully integrated teaching, research and residential facilities, our setting gives you the benefits both of a large campus environment and of the countless academic and social opportunities of London.
There are currently 22 students from Belgium at Queen Mary studying a range of courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels including: Law, Medicine, Biological Sciences, Business & Management, Drama, Modern languages, Economics & Finance.
Financing your studies
EU students applying to study at undergraduate level may be eligible for a loan to cover their tuition fees at Queen Mary, please see the Undergraduate Fees and Finance page for more details.
EU students can also apply for various studentships and bursaries for postgraduate study, please go to Postgraduate Studentships for more information.
Erasmus and Study Abroad Programmes
Students interested in attending Queen Mary through the Erasmus programme, please visit the Erasmus website.
If your university does not have an Erasmus exchange programme with Queen Mary, you can apply directly to our Study Abroad programme. This is for overseas students who would like to study with us for one or two semesters, with credit transferring to your home university. Please note that it is the student’s responsibility to ensure that their home institution will accept credits earned.
Entry requirements
Recognition of Belgian qualifications for Undergraduate Entry
Academic:
The following Belgian qualifications will be considered for entry onto a Queen Mary Bachelor’s degree:
- Certificat d'Enseignement Secondaire Supérieur (CESS)/Diploma van Hoger Secundair Onderwijs or a Graduate/Gegradueerde degree
- Exact requirements will depend on the course you are applying for but students usually need to obtain an overall average grade of between 6/10 and 9/10. You may also be required to have studied specific subjects relevant to the degree course.
Also acceptable are:
- 3 A levels (grades A-C)
- International Baccalaureate (IB)

Recognition of Belgian qualifications for Graduate Entry
Master's degrees (all one year)
Academic:
The following qualifications will be considered for entry onto a Queen Mary Master’s degree:
- Bachelor’s degree (since 2004)
- Licence/Licenciaat or equivalent professional 2-cycle qualification (e.g. Docteur, Architecte, Ingénieur)
- Diplômé d'Etudes Complémentaires/Gediplomeerde in de Aanvullende Studiën
- Exact grade requirements will depend on the level you have studied at and the course you are applying for, but you will usually need to achieve a minimum final grade of Met onderscheiding /Avec distinction/70% or 14/20
- For admission to the LLM programme applicants would need to achieve a grade Met groteonderscheiding /Avec grande distinction or 80% or 16/20
Please note that all applications are considered on an individual basis and students may be admitted to Master's programmes with a lower level degree if they have work experience relevant to the degree applied for.

Research degree (MPhil/PhD: 3 years)
Academic:
- The usual entrance requirement for a research degree is a Master’s degree (since 2004) or a Diplômé d'Etudes Approfondie/Diploma van Grondige Studies
- However departments may also accept student with high grades in the Bachelor's degree (since 2004) or the Licence/Licenciaat or equivalent professional 2-cycle qualification (e.g. Docteur, Architecte, Ingénieur
