International Students, Queen Mary, University of London

Meet the Team

Pat Power
Deputy Director (Marketing and International), Acting Co-ordinator, Corporate Affairs

Hello! I am in overall charge of activities aimed at helping you to choose the right course of study here at Queen Mary and to arrive at the College well prepared for your studies and your life in London.   Studying abroad is a truly life changing experience, and on behalf of the International Office team I hope that your time here will be rewarding both personally and professionally.

After graduating from the University of Edinburgh, I spent three years teaching English in Singapore and Tokyo before returning to the UK to 'get serious' and train as a Chartered Accountant with Ernst & Young in London. This turned out to be rather dull, however, and I decided to return to the world of education by gaining an MA in Sociolinguistics (Dissertation on 'Male-Female Miscommunication') and striking out for Taipei, where I became Director of Education Promotion at the British Council. I worked for Queen Mary for eighteen months based in East Asia, before returning to the International Office in the UK.   Recently I was awarded an MBA in Higher Education Management from the Institute of Education.  As you can see, I am a serial degree chaser!  I am currently studying Computer Science with the Open University.

Lee Wildman
Senior International Officer

Hi, I am Lee Wildman and I joined Queen Mary's International Office in November 2007 with responsibility for the College's marketing activities in South East Asia and with international students already studying in the UK.

I have worked with students ever since I graduated from Nottingham Trent University, where I studied English Literature, in 2004. I was a Sabbatical Officer for the NTU Students' Union for one year looking after Student Activities; essentially living like a student but with a 9-5 job and a pay cheque each month to pay the rent!

After reluctantly admitting my student days were over I worked for Bosworth Independent College for two years travelling around Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Africa speaking with students and parents about the benefits of studying A Level's in the UK.

Over the past four years I have travelled to the ASEAN region frequently to meet with prospective students and their families, as well as QM alumni and colleagues from the College's partner institutions. I also oversee QM's regional offices in Lahore and Lagos which manage our marketing activities in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Central Asia, and Africa respectively. I also spend time travelling around International Schools and Colleges in the UK meeting with prospective students, offer holders and school counsellors.

Feel free to contact me if you think I can help in any way.

Zelun Zhang
China Market Research Assistant

My name is Zelun Zhang, i came from China. Currently, i am a PhD student in the EECS department of Queen Mary University of London. As a Chinese, it seems that i should not be so familiar with this well-reputated British College as any UK student, but actually I am the one that knows this college better than the majority students. I have been a Queen Mary student for six years, from a innocent college freshers who was curious with anything in the university life, to a aspiring master who had an openended process for inquiry , and finally to a mature PhD who has its own career and is after his dream. Queen Mary has really gave and changed me a lot. Still remember the first time i walked around the Queen Mary mile end campus, I was so
indulged by its elegant and cozy circumstances, and also the warm atmosphere. People around the campus were so kindly to give anyone a lovely smile when walking by. The college is just like a hot dense pot to have all of us studying, living and enjoying together.

I was rejoiced to be one Queen Mary Student six years ago; I am proud to be one of the Queen Mary members now; and most important of all I will be cherished and grateful for all the experiences and memories i have had at Queen Mary University of London in my future life.
