Date: 30 January 2008

Time: 6.30pm

Venue: Arts Lecture Theatre, Arts Building, Mile End

Details:

The Secrets of Happiness

Professor Richard Schoch

Unhappy is the story of happiness. In ancient Athens, happiness was a civic virtue that demanded a lifetime's cultivation. Now, it’s everybody’s birthright. Somewhere between Plato and Prozac, happiness stopped being a lofty achievement and became an entitlement. But it doesn’t have to be that way. In a journey across cultures and centuries - from the Meditations of Marcus Aurelius to Buddha’s Four Noble Truths - Richard Schoch takes a refreshingly contemplative approach to a question that’s as vital today as ever: what does it mean to be happy.
