Entry requirements – Film Studies


A/AS-levels

Tariff/Grades Requirement: 300 for Film Studies (P303) (up to 320 points for some combinations, for example, with Drama). Applicants should aim to get, for example: 3Bs at A level, though we are flexible. If you do not perform as well in one subject and do better in others, then that is acceptable, providing you gain the minimum number of points required for the degree programme. No particular subjects are required, although A-levels in Film Studies, Media Studies, English and History will be advantageous to applicants.

Additional information
You may study a language ab initio provided that you have a proven ability in a foreign language other than your mother tongue.

Vocational or applied A-levels

Up to two vocational A-levels may be offered, or one double award, but applicants must also offer at least one GCE A-Level.

Must be in film or a related subject.


Key Skills

Results of Key Skills tests may be offered, but will not normally form part of the offer of a place.


BTEC National Certificate (12 units)

Acceptability
Acceptable only when combined with other qualifications.

Subjects and grades required
Overall Double Award DD. Must be in film or a related subject.


BTEC National Diploma (18 units)

Acceptability
Acceptable on its own and combined with other qualifications.

Subjects and grades required
Overall DMM–DDM. Must be in film or a related subject.


International Baccalaureate

Acceptability
Acceptable on its own and combined with other qualifications.

Subjects and grades required
32 points overall with 6-7 in English for Film Studies (P303).


European Baccalaureate

Acceptability
Acceptable on its own and combined with other qualifications.

Subjects and grades required
70 per cent overall with a good pass in English for Film Studies (P303).


Access to HE Diploma

Credits required
60 credits, including at least 45 at level 3

Grade required
Distinction

Additional information
Arts/Humanities based course, must have an English component at Distinction

Recognised by the Quality Assurance Agency for HE
