Guide to UCAS Clearing

UCAS Clearing is part of the UCAS application process where universities advertise all of the places they still have available. It is your final chance to apply for university if you don’t already have an offer.

Key dates

All of the key dates you will need for Clearing 2024

Key dates

You can use Clearing if one of the following apply:

  • You’ve applied after 30 June
  • You didn’t meet the conditions of your offer
  • You’ve changed your mind about what/where you wish to study
  •  You declined your Firm place or missed the deadline to accept

First, you’ll need to have all of your results. Once you have them, your UCAS Hub will show a Clearing button if you are eligible to apply through Clearing.

Next: Don’t panic! Do your research and find the courses you’re really interested in. You don’t want to rush and end up with a course you’re not going to like, but do keep in mind that popular courses might fill up quickly. The next step is to call the university to make sure that the course is still available and that you meet the entry requirements.

Once the university has confirmed this and agreed that you can apply, you can add them as a Clearing choice via your UCAS Hub. The university will then confirm your place. If they don’t then you’ll be able to add another Clearing choice.

See our guide to What to do on Results Day.

Clearing opens on 5 July 2023 and our friendly advisers are available to support you on your journey to study at Queen Mary.

You can find a summary of dates and deadlines on our Clearing page or visit the UCAS website for more information.
